CLASSIS CHATHAM MEETING

Classis Chatham: Classis met this past Tuesday in Strathroy. Elder Gerry Lankhof and Deacon Stephen Ladd together with George Flikweert were present at this meeting. Elder George Flikweert was Chairman at this meeting in which a variety of reports were received and presentations were heard in regards to the work done not only in our Classis but also throughout our denomination. Classis also dealt with the resignation of Pastor Richard Vander Vaart from the Christian Reformed Church. After a through discussion on this matter, with the concurrence of 3 Synodical Deputies, the status of Richard Vander Vaart was decided to be that as one dismissed.

We call ourself:

Christian because we belong to Jesus Christ and want to be his followers.
We recognize as fellow-Christians all people who accept the teachings of the Bible as summarized in the Apostle’s Creed.
Reformed because we're part of that historic branch of the Christian church that follows the teachings of 16th-century reformer John Calvin, who struggled to return Christianity to its biblical roots.
Church because God has called us to be a fellowship of his people in the world.
We often call ourselves "the First CRC of Chatham" for short.

  MOMENT OF REFLECTION:

Today we welcome to our pulpit, Barry Wright as he not only leads our service but also brings us the word of God that he has prepared in advance. As we worship and listen to what God has to say o s today may we be found not only to be listeners of God but also doers for God. Our mission statement is “To know Christ and make Him Known”. That’s exactly listening to what God tells and teaches us but then also sharing the good news with others along with doing good deeds for other in Christ’s name. We have opportunities to do this this coming summer in volunteering in the Soccer Camp for Christ, which is a twist to the old Vacation Bible School and in August we can again participate in the Backyard Mission where we team up with our Presbyterian brothers and sisters and help a needy family spruce up their home.
